Sound Investments For A Cause January 2, 2017

Sound Investments For A Cause   Fancy cars and expensive clothes to fine dining and exotic vacations, there are many ways you can spend your hard-earned dollars. And there is nothing wrong with rewarding yourself for a job well done, but what would happen if you rewarded someone else instead? A recent study by Harvard Business School faculty and graduate students titled "Feeling Good about Giving: The Benefits (and Costs) of Self-Interested Charitable Behavior," explores the ways in which charitable behavior can lead to benefits for the giver. While the concept that giving to others can make you feel good about yourself is not revolutionary, there are several more subtle ways that giving your money or time for a cause can benefit your psychological, spiritual and emotional well-being. Here are five reasons to donate to We Care Now or the Charity of your choice. Based on the research of the

Homeless in America July 28, 2015

Homeless in America   It’s a word that sits uncomfortably with many people. Homeless, it is not a place anyone wishes to find themselves in and yet it happens all over the world and each and every day someone, somewhere ends up being homeless. Visit any city in pretty much any country and you will find homeless people, some drunk on the side of the street, some babbling to themselves and some just sat, looking lost, feeling alone and feeling rejected. There are not only individuals but there are families that end up homeless and some who have even been born into homelessness. Many of us turn a blind eye; blame the homeless for making the streets look untidy and even do all we can to avoid homeless people. What people see in homeless people is a stereotype; people see a homeless bum, a drunk, a criminal, a drug addict

We Care About Health and Hygiene July 28, 2015

We Care About Health and Hygiene   Today we (the staff and volunteers) had a wonderful opportunity to volunteer at an organization called Clean the World. The mission of that organization, much like that of We Care Now; is to improve the health of the impoverished on a global scale by water sanitation; distributing soap and other hygiene items. By partnering with the organization we were able to receive hygiene kits to transport to the Bahamas for our Annual Back to School event. As we perspired over tables filled with used soap and half empty bottles of lotion and shampoo, I wondered to myself ‘who in the world thought it would be a good idea to recycle this mess’. I looked at the used items donated by local hotels and resorts in the area, I could not fathom how they could take what was obviously a concentration of germs and

What about the homeless? July 25, 2015

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] What about the homeless? We see them every day in every major city in the world. As we drive to work they are there at the entrances and exits to freeways, signs around their neck asking for a handout. We intensely ignore them and in fact, it has become a skill not to make eye contact though sometimes we just can't help ourselves. We may comment to our fellow passengers that the person is too young to be homeless, that they should get a job and make a decent living. We feel self-righteous saying these things but as the number of homeless people continues to increase we know deep within us that there has to be something that can be done to help the homeless most especially, homeless families. These days children are becoming more homeless as a result of several disaster which they couldn’t help, they live in

Education in the 21st Century June 28, 2015

Education in the 21st Century   There is a really funny radio ad that comes on in my local area, where the commentator is giving a commencement speech in which he is congratulating the students for having completed their college degrees, he applauded them for graduating with insurmountable debt and predicted that many of them would end up back home sharing a bedroom with their siblings. The infomercial-while humorous, really drives home that fact that many students are graduating with enormous amounts of student loan debt, and without the prospect of immediate employment at their dream jobs. One day on my way to work I really reflected on this radio ad, as a result it caused me to have several conversations young people and adults regarding their high school and college experiences. As a result of those conversations, I realized that a pattern began to emerge. That pattern being the

We Care ~ Summer Lunch Programs June 2, 2015

We Care ~ Summer Lunch Programs   Graduation season often marks the beginning of the end, it signifies that summer is near and the school year is rapidly coming to an end. Summer marks the start of sun and fun for children all over the nation. It’s the season for vacations and family reunions. It’s a time where parents have enrolled their children in summer programs or have them spending time with relatives, anything to keep the kids busy and out of trouble.   There is another side to summer, that I think many of us do not consider. For many hardworking parents, summer brings a stressful time where utility bills and the family food budget increases. These families often do not have the resources that allow them to send their children to summer camp therefore that must remain home alone or care for their younger siblings. Where children previously
